The weird adventures of Reverend Jesse Custer, his girlfriend Tulip and his vampire strange friend Cassidy continue in book three of the Preacher graphic novel series by Barth Ennis and Steve Dillon. There is a conflict of interest between Tulip and Cassidy concerning their relationship in this book, which I will not reveal in this review. This volume is organized into nine chapters. The first chapter, “One Saint of Killers” I really enjoyed because it takes place in the early west and the bounty hunter in this chapter reminded me of the Jonah Hex character, which I love. The other chapters in this graphic tale includes: Blood and whiskey, three gun chicks, rumors of war, old familiar faces, good times rolling, underworld, snakes in the grass, and price of night. There is also a Preacher Gallery by Glenn Fabry in this volume.I must mention that reading the conversations between Tulip and her girlfriend, Amy concerning the Tulip’s conflict about her and Jessie got to be tedious and boring; nevertheless, I thought over all this was an entertaining read.If you are a fan of the Preacher graphic novel series you may want to check out this #3 volume.Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Hanbo-Jutsu: Use of the Hanbo, Cane, Walking Stick and Baton for self-defense) Re-reading this series, it occurs to me that everything most fans seem to remember most fondly (about the group-dynamic between the three main characters etc) is largely centered on the first two volumes of the current printing. This is where things start to get heavy and uncomfortable, largely due to how it delves deeper into the character of Cassidy ('til now presented as a lovable rogue), how his deep flaws start to reveal themselves, and how it affects those around him. There's some wonkiness to the execution, partly in how Cassidy's behavioral flaws come out of nowhere, and partially in the way other aspects surrounding him are contrived to make him look even worse...The way the actions of Les Enfants Du Sang were somehow supposed to have been Cassidy's fault still doesn't ring true to me, and feels contrived as to how it's supposed to make him look bad to the reader as a person. And really wasn't needed, considering how his own behavior makes him look sufficiently flawed. All in all, serves more as a setup for the next volume, where the s**t really hits the fan.
