If you like me have been waiting anxiously for this book ever since the Vampire Bound series first started, you won't be disappointed. This is classic R. A. Steffan at its best: punchy dialogue, excellent group dynamics and exposition that manages to feel organic despite having a ton of ground to cover. Len, predictably, is an amazing character to build a series around — as is Albigard. The ...thing between them (not quite sexual tension but budding attraction for sure) is indeed a very slow burn but it would have felt weird if it wasn't given how these two characters started off and everything else that's happening.Without giving too much away, I will say this:a) the revelation about Len and what's unique about him is BRILLIANTb) that cliffhanger was totally unexpected and brutal and I can see people freaking out but I know (hope?) it will probably be fixed SOMEHOW in the next books. Right? RIGHT?Anyway, go get this book. And then join me in waiting for the next instalment. This is the first I have ever read by the author but after reading this one book I'm definitely going to go back and read the othe books Vampire Bound and The Last Vampire which started it all. There is this unique and intriguing twist on what you think you know about Vampires, Demons and the Fae it leaves you wondering who is really evil and who is good and the intrigue well its the Veil why is it failing are the Demons rising or maybe the Fae are just getting greedy so with all the drama angst and the characters dialogue the lack of steam was okay really enjoyed this and I didn't feel that I missed anything not having read the other books it just made me want to read them anyway. So here's a little bit about the book but I'm warning anyone who reads this its addictive and when it ends on a cliffhanger makes you want to scream so I had to pre-order the next two books.Len has come home to a situation as if having his last job blown up wasn't enough now he has a very attractive but irritating house guest why can't his friends choose better friends or maybe he should stop hanging out with creatures and fantasy characters Vamps and Fae always bring him trouble. Soon it's a fight for everyone's life and a secret about himself he never saw coming hes had a crazy childhood seen chaos and lost friends but never ever did he expect the most annoying and uptight Fae to disrupt his life like this.Albigard is complex he comes of as completely cold and unfeeling very closed off until certain things happen to change his mind about someone and then further tradgy and betrayal will come for him. When you see where it all ends you wonder if he's better off having gone against his own or weather he should have just stayed out of things or if whatever is coming would have happened anyway.
